Online Academic Resources

The internet is a treasure trove of learning resources and opportunities, but it isn't always easy to know where to begin, or how to find appropriate sites specifically geared toward elementary students. The resources below were collected with an eye toward helping both students and teachers locate useful sites for research, study support, and  educational play and exploration. If you have a favorite that should be included here, please share it! We'll review and add it as soon as possible.

  • Wise Owl StudyingEncyclopedia Britannica

  • Kid.gov:  Learning resources for kids K-8. 

  • Math.com:  Calculators, converters, graphing tools, study tips, and more.

  • Merriam Webster Online: Online reference resources including a dictionary and a thesaurus. 

  • NOAA Weather Education:  The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's collection of resources for students, K-12.

  • NoodleTools:  Use NoodleBib Express or NoodleBib MLA Starter to generate properly formatted MLA or APA citations.

  • Pearson Social Studies:  Includes a Social Studies Library, a Current Events Section, an Atlas, and more.

  • Study Skills: Make the most of your study time with this collection of tips, resources, and strategies.

Basic Computer Skills
  • Visit TypingTest.com to see how quickly and accurately you type.

  • Explore the lessons and games on  PowerTyping.com to develop good basic skills.

  • These Keyboarding Practice exercises will also help you develop good foundational habits.

  • Need to increase your speed?  Try your hand at some of these fun typing games.

  • Play some of these "Mousing Around" games to improve your facility with the mouse and to hone your strategic skills.
  • Internet Safety is also a basic skill! Always check with your parents before logging into the internet, and be sure to follow their rules and guidelines.
For Teachers and Parents
  • The International Society for Technology in Education provides teachers, parents, and students with a good overview of the critical thinking skills required to thrive in the digital age.
