Supporting Our Food Pantry

The Food Pantry at our parish is extremely important to many of our parishioners who contribute and others who need to use it. I can’t emphasize enough how central our service to the poor manifest our love of Jesus. I sincerely hope that we will be able to expand our service to the poor of our region as times goes by and we get some of our expenses under control. Thank you for the donations you make to the parish for the food pantry. The donations assist the food pantry in two ways. St. Mary’s sends a check to the food pantry on a regular basis. We also use donated funds to pay the utilities that the parish covers for the food pantry.

La despensa de Alimentos en nuestra parroquia es extremadamente importante para muchos de nuestros feligreses que contribuyen y necesitan de ella. No puedo mas que enfatizar cuan importante es nuestro servicio a los pobres y cómo se manifiesta nuestra amor a Jesus en este servicio. Sinceramente espero que podamos expander nuestro servicio dentro de la comunidad en cuanto nuestros gastos esten bajo control. Gracias por sus donativos que usted hace para nuestra despensa, estos apoyan de dos maneras: Santa Maria envia un cheque a la despensa en forma regular, y tambien usamos esos fondos para pagar por servicios domesticos (luz, gas, etc.) del edificio donde se encuentra la despensa.

Society of St. Vincent DePaul

Saint Mary’s will join many other parishes throughout the Joliet Diocese by establishing its own Saint Vincent de Paul conference.

The overall goal of the Conference is to bring Spiritual and Material support to those Parishioners and West Chicago residents who are in need, suffering: distress, loneliness or just trying to achieve a more stable life.

The specific goals of St. Mary’s conference are to:

Provide immediate help to the needy of the parish,
Provide referrals to the appropriate agencies for long term assist-ance and
To establish personal relationships with those who have asked for our help to bring Christ further into their lives.

Membership in the Conference is open to any parishioner and we will especially need 10-12 committed bi-lingual volunteers to be the initial responders to the calls for help that will come in to our Saint Vincent DePaul hotline.

Hours will be flexible to accommodate volunteer schedules and training will be provided by the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

If you would like to join the Conference or become a volunteer, please contact Deacons Bruce,Luis, Sr. Maria, the parish office or e-mail Trini Cantu at tcantu2@yahoo.com. A meeting for potential members and volunteers will be held on March 29th at theParish center at 7:00 p.m.

Santa Maria se unira a muchas otras parroquias en la Diocesis de Joliet estableciendo su propia conferencia
de San Vincent DePaul.

La meta de es proveer de apoyo material y espiritual a los feligreses y residentesnecesitados de West Chicago que viven angustiados,
solos o están tratando de lograr una vida mas estable.

Las metas especificas de esta conferencia en Santa
Maria son:

Proveer ayuda inmediata a los necesitados
Referirlos a las agencias apropiadas que brinden una asistencia a largo plazo
Establecer relaciones personales con quienes hayan solicitado nuestra ayuda y asi llevar a Cristo a sus vidas.

La membresia en esta conferencia esta abierta para todos y en especial necesitamos de 10 a 12 voluntarios bilingües comprometidos para ser los primeros contactos de ayuda en la línea caliente de San Vicente de Paul.

Los horarios serán flexibles para ajustarse a los voluntarios. San Vincent DePaul proveerá de entrenamiento.

Si usted desea unirse a este equipo de voluntarios, por favor pongase en contacto con nuestros diaconos Bruce Carlson y/o Luis Saltigerald, o con la Hermana Maria Romero en l a oficina parroquial, o e-mail Trini Cantu at cantu2@yahoo.com. Se ha programado una sesión de entrenamiento para voluntarios potenciales el martes 29 de marzo a las 7:00 p.m. en el centro parroquial.

Learning to Make a Difference in the World!

Each year, St. Mary’s School selects a theme to guide and enrich learning. This year's theme is “Go Make a Difference!” Activities are planned throughout the year to help teach faculty, students, and parents that there are many ways we can all make a difference in the world. Here are a few of the "make a difference" activities our students have recently engaged in:

Our 3rd and 4th graders hosted an International Feast to celebrate Christmas. As they prepared for the celebration, they learned about multicultural holiday traditions, foods, and music. After the feast, the 4th graders performed in a talent show for their parents and their 3rd grade friends. Students sang, played musical instruments, performed athletic feats, displayed their special collections, and more. All were reminded that everyone brings special talents and gifts to the world!
All of our students collected Christmas gifts to distribute to the residents of West Chicago Terrace nursing home.

Recycle! Recicle!

Before mass, before school, before religious education classes...or after mass, after school, after
religious education classes, please remember to drop off your paper recycling products here to help raise much needed money for the church. It costs
nothing except a few minutes of your time. Plus, it's good for the earth, and good for the church!
