Chrism Mass

An annual Mass, ideally on Holy Thursday, concelebrated in the cathedral by the bishop and priests of a diocese in communion with their people. It is meant to publicly express the unity of the diocese, the unity of the priests and their bishop, and to celebrate the institution of the priesthood and priestly service. Paschal Mystery

In the Sacraments Jesus Christ enacts his Paschal mystery. In speaking of the Pascal Mystery we present Christ’s death and Resurrection as one, inseparable event. It is paschal because it is Christ’s passing into death and passing over it into new life. It is a mystery because it is a visible sign of an invisible act of God. (CCA. 522-523)

Real Presence

When the bread is consecrated, it is changed into Christ’s Body. When the wine is consecrated, it is changed into Christ’s Blood. Jesus Christ is substantially present in a way that is entirely unique. This happens through the power of the Holy Spirit and the ministry of the priest or bishop acting in the person of Christ during the Eucharistic prayer. (CCA. 525)
