Stay
Healthy; Stay Involved
St. Mary's Parish School athletic program
provides opportunities for students to be involved
in a physical and social activity which contributes
to their overall well-being. Students in grades
5-8th grade may participate. St. Mary's Parish
School offers coed soccer, girl’s volleyball, boy’s
basketball, girl’s basketball and coed track and
field. The cost of the program is $75.00. This
enables the athlete to participate in all sports.
If your child is interested in this program, there
are several requirements that are important to
follow. As part of your role as your child’s primary
educator, you are to encourage good study habits, to
check in with your child’s academic progress, and to
maintain a healthy environment that is conducive to
learning in the home and to the successful
completion of homework. This can all be
done by checking the assignment notebooks and
backpacks daily. By reviewing the papers and tests
sent home, you will have a good idea of the progress
made. Students learn organization skills and study
skills from their role models—parents, teachers, and
friends.
In order for students to participate in a sport,
grades must be within the 100% - 77% (A+/C-) range.
Grades will be evaluated every 2 weeks. If a D+ or
less is received in any one subject, the student is
on probation. This means that the student may still
participate in the practices and games. However, it
is definitely a red flag.
If 2 weeks later a student has a D+ or less in any
one subject, they are taken from
active-team-participation for 2 weeks until the
grades are averaged again. Being removed from
active-team-participation means the student is not
to attend practices or games. This time spent at
home is to be used for studying and working toward
achieving average progress in all academic areas.
They may participate once all grades are maintained
at C- or above level.
In addition, sports physicals and proof of medical
insurance are a requirement to participate in
sports. These must be submitted before a student can
participate in team activities that represent our
school.
